Summary

In Iran, Shahram Tabe-Mohammadi was a young member of the revolutionary movement against the Shah. He wanted democracy for Iran, rather than the Islamic regime. One day he was warned by a friend that the secret police were after him and that within a matter of days he would be arrested and jailed or possibly executed. Immediately he packed up and went to Turkey. There, he spent six months, three of which were in Turkish jails. He speaks of the horrible experience he had there with 172 people squashed in a tiny room. Many people had disease, and at night they could hardly sleep as they had to fight off rats which were unafraid of humans. Eventually, by flying with false documents, he made it to numerous countries such as Sweden, Denmark, Russia and finally Canada.
