Biography
Celia Cruz came from a small town in the Phillipines. With adequate recognition of her professional qualifications, she was able to find work almost right away.
Initially, Celia missed the night life and fun to which she had become accustomed. Winters appeared harsh when she found herself stuck in an apartment in Mississauga, and with the help of her friends, she has now made Canada her home.
Summary
Celia Cruz came to Canada around 1989. Some friends of hers provided accommodation for her in Mississauga, Ontario. At first the experience was a shock to her. Compared to the liveliness of Manila, Mississauga appeared to be like the remotest part of the Philippines. Over time she built a community of friends. Celia shares her difficulties with her other Filipino friends. They comfort each other when they are lonely and share traditional food when they need it. She has come a long way and is open to other cultures, including trying all kinds of different cuisines. Celia says Canada is now home for her and that it is a pleasure to be here.
