Long, long ago elephants had wings; four large wings, two on each side. Gods used to ride on elephants then. Though they were beautiful, and their flights were a feast to the eyes, other animals were afraid of them. Often an elephant fell down on other animals, crushing them. So they complained to God.
One day God called all elephants and gave them a feast. The elephants ate so much that they fell asleep. God then clipped their wings. He stuck two wings on the peacock and the other two on the banana plant. Thus the shapes of elephants, peacocks and banana plants got changed to their present forms. Elephants could no longer fly.
